26th Edition: GIFF POWERED BY AI

In its 26th edition, the GIFF will address the challenges and opportunities presented by Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the creative industries, particularly the audiovisual industry. These new technologies promise to revolutionize the way we work, live, and even think. True to our pioneering spirit, AI will be used in all areas of the festival, including editorial, events, accreditations, conferences, and more. As a demonstration of the new paths opening up to our creativity, we present this year's official image, designed with AI guided by the graphic artist Analí Jaramillo.

The ethical and intellectual dilemmas provoked by AI are not a futuristic issue; its disruptive power is already present here and now. Like any cutting-edge technology, AI offers us both new capabilities and new threats. This year, GIFF will put on the table the most challenging questions about issues such as intellectual property, decision-making, privacy, content homogenization, and updating legislation—urgent matters that require responsible assimilation of the remarkable abilities offered by the contemporary world and ignite creative modes that we have not seen until now.

During the festival, which will take place from July 20th to 31st, the international film community gathered in Guanajuato will have the opportunity to thoroughly analyze the predictable and unpredictable consequences brought about by the latest digital revolution.

In this way, GIFF offers its audience and guests an event that matches the challenges and inquiries faced by our era. The future of cinema and the creative industries has caught up with us, complicating the relationship between man and machine. Meanwhile, GIFF moves forward into this version of the future with the energy focused on innovation and the far-reaching perspectives that have always characterized us.

The GIFF and The Oscars

GIFF is recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organization behind the Oscars. This means that winning certain categories at GIFF can make a film eligible for consideration in the corresponding categories at the Academy Awards. GIFF is one of the many film festivals worldwide that have this recognition.

The Oscars have specific eligibility criteria for films to be considered for nomination, and one of the ways for a film to qualify is by winning an award at a recognized festival like GIFF. However, it's important to note that winning at GIFF does not guarantee automatic nomination or even selection for the Oscars. It simply makes the film eligible to be submitted for consideration.

Once a film has won an award at GIFF or any other recognized festival, it can enter the submission process for the Oscars. Films must meet additional criteria and go through a selection process conducted by the Academy. Ultimately, the Academy members vote to determine the final nominees and winners of the Oscars.
